Missions at Highlands

Missions at Highlands

At Highlands Community Church, we exist to glorify God by making disciples of Jesus Christ — not only in our own community but throughout the world. Missions is not just something we do; it is who we are. We seek to live faithfully by loving our neighbors, proclaiming the gospel, and serving others in Jesus’ name.

We are committed to reaching across the street, across the region, and across the world with the hope of Christ.

Local Missions

We are honored to partner with CAYA Reconciliation Ministries, a mercy ministry serving families across Paulding County. Through CAYA’s food pantry, summer lunch programs, and community outreach events, tangible needs are met while the gospel is shared.

At Highlands, we support CAYA through:

  • Hosting the CAYA Summer Lunch program (read more here)
  • Volunteer service at the food pantry and outreach events
  • Financial giving to sustain their ministry efforts
  • Leadership involvement, as Pastor Bill Alderson serves on the CAYA Board of Directors

Through this partnership, we seek to meet practical needs and open hearts to the eternal hope found in Christ.

Regional Missions

For the past three years, our youth ministry has partnered with World Changers (world-changers.net) to live out their faith through hands-on mission work.

Each summer, Highlands students travel to underserved communities to:

  • Perform home repairs (roofing, painting, accessibility improvements)
  • Support local ministries
  • Build relationships and share the gospel

This July, our team will serve in Panama City, Florida, helping with home repairs in low-income neighborhoods.

The youth missions program is led by Pastor Bill and Bonnie Alderson, who faithfully guide and disciple our students both before and during these mission experiences.

“Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.”
— 1 Timothy 4:12 (ESV)

Global Missions

Under the leadership of Pastor Jody May, Highlands Community Church is actively engaged in a long-term mission partnership with missionaries Johnny and Donna Maust in the coastal community of Peñas Blancas, Ecuador.

Since 2022, Highlands teams have:

  • Repaired school facilities and a clean water cistern
  • Made home improvements for teachers
  • Built relationships with local leaders
  • Shared the gospel and personal testimonies
  • Supported sustainable development efforts

Who Has Gone:

  • In 2022, Pastor Jody May went on an exploratory trip with our mission partners at New Georgia Baptist Church.
  • In 2023Pastor Jody May and Brother Rolando Aguilar traveled to Peñas Blancas to strengthen partnerships and lay the groundwork for ongoing ministry.
  • In 2024, Highlands members Tony and Nina Lundgren served on the mission team, continuing to build relationships and serve the community.

Our Vision:
Looking forward, we plan to send skilled teams to train locals in basic welding, electrical work, and construction — empowering the community to meet its own needs and carry the mission forward.

“Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!”
— Psalm 96:3 (ESV)
